SKIFT

The project “SKIFT” aimed to explore and communicate the possibilities of reusing building materials through art, and in this way increase knowledge, awareness and engagement about resource use among tomorrow’s generation. 25 students who were to start at the new Voldsløkka school in the fall of 2023, were invited to create a work of art that was completed at the school’s official opening.

Materials that were taken from a building on the school's own site, just before it was to be demolished, were the starting point for the project, and the students were invited to create their own mosaics using these materials.

The students' work was eventually collected into one final permanent artwork that now hangs in the school's stairwell.

The project was led by artist and architect Jenny Ueland and artist and landscape architect Vaar Bothner. It is part of the research-based EU project "ARV" that works towards circular neighborhoods. Circular art, and the process of creating it, is used as a tool to contribute to local change in Voldsløkka.
